Are you sure your referral link is correct? Because it seems incorrect from the PHP point of view..
Variables and values go in pairs.. The (?) symbol indicates that a variable set will follow in the form of:

Code (html):

http://www.ptcbox.me?variable=value

etc.

Code (html):

http://www.ptcbox.me?refid=12345

One can then add multiple variables by concatenating them with the symbol (&) like this:

Code (html):

http://www.ptcbox.me?refid=12345&username=bla&email=bla@bla.com

So, I think your link is not valid.. can you double check it?

Another thing is that you could have given us an advance notice. For a while there, there wasn't much happening in the forum. So I was thinking maybe just logging in once or twice a day would be sufficient.

All of a sudden, you posted all at once, asking if you could join in their downline in about 5 different programs. And I didn't have a chance to read them yet. After all I've done in the forum! ;)

Although some of the blame goes to SS for allowing this to happen to begin with!

I know of many other forum owners, including some successful net marketers, that would not have allowed this to happen to begin with!

If you haven't showed up in Venkat's downline, I really doubt this works..

It's actually not how it is supposed to work from the programming point of view since we're talking about PHP..

On the other hand, it's not impossible to implement, however if they actually made it to work like this, it could even prove to be a vulnerability for the site's security..

You can see how the ticket tracking is correctly set up: ?track=DMN-N5G-AU3B
..as it follows the proper pattern: ?key=value

The proper way is to capture the "key" as the variable name and then collect the "value" that is assigned to it, and use them in the code.

If they pass the value as a key, it would be easy for a hacker to pass "something fishy" in the system this way and use it as a tool to extract information.. and it should be concerning because the site requests a lot of sensitive info such as the address and phone number of the user.  :-/

Let's just wait for their reply to the ticket..

Taking it one step further, in testing how the PT referring system works, take a look at this..:

The string of characters passed after the questionmark (?) gets parsed and then saved to a variable called id that is hidden in the registration form and will act as an input for the referrer field in the database.

So, after testing a few patterns to see how the unwanted characters are dropped out there is a pattern that escapes the check which for example can be the following..:

http://www.planet-traffic.com/?(5006)OR(1)OR(2)OR(3)...

In this case I could enter an unlimited number of IDs and it seems to be passing the checks before being saved as the id variable value.
So, if one opens the following link and proceeds to the registration page the id variable will show up like this :

As you can see the whole pattern has been saved as the referrer's id and if one proceeds to register the system will probably add that line to a database query that normally looks for the id of the referrer and assigns it to the referral or the opposite (assigns the referral to the referrer).

My point is that if this isn't prevented by further security checks the referral will end up joining in up to everyone's downline blowing up the system..

I haven't tried it because I don't want to mess anything up, I'm just bringing it up for the admin to notice and check it as a potential danger of the site.

It is based on how it's designed to work.. if the system is designed to use only the first row of the results, it may work.. however if the system is fully dynamic then it would sign up the referral under all ids.. which could mess everything up..

When you load the page with your referral link, the system stores the id value in a session cookie that is stored in our browser.
Then when we click on the "Affiliate Program Earn up to $35 per Sale" link to browse to the registration page, the system loads that value from our browser.. so with cookies disabled the value will be null.. cause the cookie will not get stored.. So the member will join un-referred.

@Dan, I don't have plans on purchasing advertising there for now, but there is a probability for the future.. so I can't promise anything right now.
Anyways, I'll try to join under Dan and see if this even works as intended. I'll use a private browsing session so there's no need to worry about cookies not being clean or sth.

To tell you the truth, purchasing signups is frowned upon in some of the affiliate or PTC programs. If you do purchase some, just make sure you don't do it in some of the programs that already frowns on them and do it in some of the programs that don't mind getting them.
